Card values

Rummy uses penalty scoring: lower is better. A valid declarer receives zero points. Losing players total the penalty value of cards that remain outside protected valid groups.

• Ace, King, Queen, and Jack: 10 points each
• Cards 2 through 10: printed face value
• Printed and wild jokers: 0 points
• Valid sequences and sets may protect cards, depending on whether the hand contains the required pure sequence

How to calculate a losing hand

First verify whether the player has the required pure sequence. Then identify other valid sequences and sets. Add the values of cards that remain unmatched. Apply the agreed maximum penalty if the total exceeds it.

Why the pure sequence matters

Under common online-style scoring, a hand without a pure sequence may receive points for most or all cards, capped at the table maximum. A pure sequence protects its cards and makes the rest of the hand eligible for normal group validation.

Round totals by format

Points Rummy usually settles one deal. Pool Rummy adds each losing score to that player's running total until the elimination threshold is reached. Deals Rummy plays a fixed number of deals and compares cumulative points or chips at the end.

• Points: one deal, lowest penalty wins
• Pool 101: eliminate at 101 or more
• Pool 201: eliminate at 201 or more
• Deals: compare totals after the agreed number of deals
